Google’s new keyword search tool has been so impressive; it’s the first program I use for research. It alsmost feels like cheating, and as I’m humming along I can’t help wondering why it is free…![]()
Tips:
- Use very short 1-2 word phrases
- Use the website content option on competitors’ websites to see what keywords they may be using
- Try searches with and without the synonym checker
- Make a list of negative keywords (keywords you do not want to include; for example, if you are selling posters, you probably do not want to market to users searching for a “free poster”
- Use the language/location options to your advantage. For example, in the USA there are different words used for the same thing; “Pop”, “Soda”, “Cola”, and “Soft Drink”.
- You will see keywords that get a fair number of searches with little advertising being done on them. Cha-ching!
- Use the content checker on your own page; you may be encouraged by the results or want to make some changes.
