But what the heck ARE they? It took several looks at the little things, but as I browsed sites I kept being attracted to little upscale, clean “boxes”
information, and more likely than not they invited to “get this widget!”
Widgets are here to stay. They are easy to build (and even simple for developers to allow virtually anyone to adapt to their own needs), fun to see, and do carry strong “brandability”.
Amazon has gotten into widgets in a big way. Web publishers can sign up for their free affiliate program, and within minutes be able to display hand-picked products from Amazon to sell through their site. Not to say you would want this; it is just an example of how prevalent widgets are becoming.
