How Using Pictures Brings Visitors

Pictures dress up blogs and articles and keep your pages fresh. Use them to your advantage in improving your rankings as well.  It’s simple!

Virtually unheard of a few short years ago, now blended, or universal, search results are now returning images as well; Google estimates are around 15% and growing.  This tells us that search engines consider visual content along with worded content; relevant information is what is regarded the most.

Do you have any photos or videos in your business that could be used on your site?  Think about how they could add to the value of your business by being seen by thousands of visitors, who will have that image “branded” more impactfully than simple text.

People actually would feel more attached to your business by seeing pictures of the company picnic or a group photo.

And don’t underestimate the longevity of a good video.  There are popular YouTube videos that are several months and years old which still show up at the top of search results!

You can opt to put up your media as is or mark them with your site’s URL (web address).  Here is what you DO want to do to help the search engines “read” the images:

Tag and optimize images. This means describing the picture or video with precise keywords to help the robots determine what the images are.

Submit them to search feeds. For Google there is a separate image seach and universal (blended) search.

Tip: Yahoo is important too; Flickr photos rank  well with Yahoo search engines.
